Should you be afraid of sleep wrinkles?
Sleep wrinkles bother lots of women. However, few of them know the cause of the problem. We usually don’t know about the wrinkles that result from sleeping in a specific position. Therefore, we think that creases visible on our cheeks, chin and around the eyes are regular wrinkles. It’s worth to take a closer look at the sleep wrinkles.
How do they develop?
Sleep wrinkles are wrinkles which occur on the face and the chest in places that come into contact with the sheets. They usually appear when we sleep on our belly or on the side. In these positions, the face presses the pillow so the skin creases. Such creases may become durable, especially if we consider the time we devote to sleep. Therefore, our sleeping position is to be blamed.
We spend 1/3 of the day in a lying position so we press the skin for quite a long time. Standard rest (on average 6-8 hours of sleep) may give us even several new sleeping wrinkles. Those who sleep longer get themselves even more wrinkles.
What is the characteristic feature of such wrinkles?
Sleep wrinkles are much more different from natural and mimic wrinkles. The basic difference is the cause: natural wrinkles are caused by gravity, mimic wrinkles result from face dynamics whereas sleep wrinkles occur due to creasing and pressing while sleeping. Sleep wrinkles are the only ones that can be avoided.
Apart from the causes, the appearance of sleep wrinkles is also different. They are usually vertical and very unsymmetrical. They appear in unnatural places and look unnatural. They often occur on one side of the face.
How to prevent sleep wrinkles?
The best method (only for the persistent ones) is sleeping on your back – sleep wrinkles won’t appear as you won’t press your skin to the pillow. We can deal with the creases if we stimulate the skin to produce new collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. These ingredients make the skin supple; firm skin is more resistant to the occurrence of permanent creases.
